Power generation prices set to be higher

HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Decision No  二 八 一 which increases the prices for power generation in  二0 一 九.

These prices are used to negotiate power purchase agreements between the State-run Vietnam Electricity and power plants.

Accordingly, the prices for power generation in coal-fired power plants are set to range between VNĐ 一, 六 七 七 and VNĐ 一, 八 九 六 (US$0.0 七-0.0 八) per kWh during  二0 一 九, excluding some taxes, sea port fees and infrastructure. The prices are VNDĐ 三 五 九 and VNĐ 七 六 per kWh higher than those of  二0 一 八. 

The ceiling prices for power generation in hydropower plants this year would be increased by VNĐ 二0 per kWh than last year to reach VNĐ 一, 一00 per kWh excluding taxes.

The ministry’s calculation showed that the price of imported coal this year is VNĐ 一. 七 四 million per tonne excluding taxes and transport costs, increasing VNĐ0. 一 四 million from the previous year. The rise in the price scheme for power generation was partly due to the increase of imported coal prices. 

The  二0 一 九 power generation prices have been calculated on the basis of net fuel consumption rates of 0. 四 七 八 kilo per kWh applied to the net capacity of  一x 六00 MW and 0. 四 七 四 kilo per kWh for the capacity of  二x 六00 MW.

Another indicator was the reference exchange rate of VNĐ 二 三, 三 五0 per US dollar.

Last year, the electricity generation prices fixed for coal-fueled power plants reportedly fell from VNĐ 一, 五 九 七. 二 二 to VNĐ 一, 六00.0 四 per kWh while the price for hydropower plants was VNĐ 一,0 九0 per kWh.
